It’s Launch Day!

The day has arrived… The Tides Turn at Midnight is out in the world!

(Honestly, the number of times I accidentally type The Tudes Turn at Midnight… 😂)

I woke up feeling okay, and was soon very humbled as I spent the morning completing the mundane tasks of a Sunday morning. Tidying up toys and packing away Halloween decorations, washing the cars and vacuuming 😂 a very glamorous day indeed.

It did improve, though! I decided it was probably time to show my face online, so I got my makeup done (the service is redeemable for products, so I thought why not?) and was so delighted to meet my makeup artist, who is on Bookstagram! We chatted books the whole time, and it was honestly so lovely.

My wonderful friend, who is great with a camera, came over to snap some pictures for me. She brought flowers and we spent the whole afternoon laughing as she tried to get a somewhat decent picture of me. I would be an absolutely dismal model! Thankfully, I have more talent for writing. 😂

The beautiful flowers from my friends!

Another of my gorgeous friends had flowers delivered to my door and, to use a romance phrase, my heart swelled from the love and support. 💖

Honestly, my friends have been so amazing! This has been a six-year process and I’ve only recently started telling my friends. They’ve all been so supportive and kind, and it really does mean the world to me.

I wrote this book in lockdown of 2020. A friend had recently passed away, way too young. He was larger than life and a really beloved member of so many communities around the world - honestly, in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Darwin and in and around his home state of Long Island, USA. He really had a great impact on everyone he met, and I don’t say that lightly. His passing really hit home that life is short.

When I was six, I remember being asked at school what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said ‘a mummy and a book writer’. I realised that if I really wanted to achieve the latter part, I’d need to get started. I’d heard it takes ten tries at something to be good at it, so I put aside the manuscript I’d been working on for four years and decided to write a little trilogy set in one of my favourite parts of the world.

That’s how The Tides Turn at Midnight was born. It follows Hazel McCleod, who returns to her hometown of Bells Bay after her life falls apart. She tries to resist the charms of handsome handyman Sam Parker, who’s renovating her mother’s old farmhouse. Hazel starts to wonder if the town she was so desperate to escape as a teenager is really as bad as she thought it was.
